Life has been far from a picnic for Carla Connor (Alison King) in Coronation Street lately, and the drama is only set to ramp up as we get closer to Corriedale.
Carla has been confirmed as one of a number of characters set to appear in the epic crossover between ITV’s flagship soaps Coronation Street and Emmerdale.
Although how she ends up in the middle of a multi-vehicle pile-up on a country road outside Hotten is anyone’s guess, given her current situation.
For over a week now, Carla has been at the mercy of Becky Swain (Amy Cudden), who has locked her in an airing cupboard to keep her away from Lisa Swain (Vicky Myers).
Carla was getting closer to uncovering the full extent of Becky’s misdeeds when she was caught red-handed snooping around the once-dead woman’s flat.
However, it isn’t the threat of Carla exposing her criminal activities that has convinced Becky that keeping her bound and gagged in a closet is the best course of action. No, delusional Becky is entirely driven by her desire to reclaim what she believes is rightfully hers: Lisa.
With Carla out of the way and Becky having laid a trail of breadcrumbs leading Lisa to totally the wrong conclusions, she is getting ever closer to achieving her goal.
In the lead-up to Corriedale, Becky further isolates Lisa and daughter Betsy Swain (Sydney Martin) by encouraging them to get rid of their phones in the interests of their own safety, promising she’ll get them new ones beforethey leave for the ferry.
Somewhere between the Chariot Square Hotel and the ferry port, the Swains end up on that cursed road as their lives intertwine with the Emmerdale villagers’.
Despite the fact that this storyline has been building since Becky’s resurrection in the summer, actress Alison King revealed that she had no expectations of being in the Corriedale crossover.
When asked at the premiere what she had been hoping to read upon receiving the Corriedale script, Ali replied: ‘Nothing for Carla. I was thinking, “What on earth is this? There’s no words!” It was just one thing after another.’

However, after reading through pages and pages of twists, turns and carnage, there was one thing she wanted.
‘I hoped that Carla would be alive at the end of it,’ she laughed.
Will Ali get her wish? Or, after everything she’s suffered in the last few months, will Corriedale be the thing to finally destroy Carla Connor?
