He-Man Movie Details Reveal Jared Leto’s ‘Shakespearean’ Skeletor & Blue Suit

Some new details about Jared Leto‘s portrayal of Skeletor in Masters of the Universe were recently revealed. The upcoming film launches in theaters later this year. It is the second live-action movie adaptation of Mattel’s popular media franchise after the 1987 film starring Dolph Lundgren. The story finds He-Man and his allies going up against Skeletor’s forces to save his homeworld, Eternia.

New details about Jared Leto’s Skeletor in Masters of the Universe revealed

Travis Knight, who was at the DNEG office in London for Masters of the Universe’s post-production process, shared some details about Jared Leto’s Skeletor via some yet-to-be-polished sequences to Empire Magazine. The outlet noted that the actor wore a blue-skinned muscle suit and that his face was digitally replaced by a CG-animated skull (via He-Mania).

The outlet also offered one more interesting tidbit about the portrayal, revealing how Leto’s take on the iconic villain would sound. They said, “And while (Jared Leto’s) vocalisation avoids rehashing the memorable nasal whine of the original cartoon Skeletor (voiced by Alan Oppenheimer), it doesn’t sound like his own, having instead a dry, Shakespearean timbre.”

In an interview with Empire, Knight, who highlighted Skeletor’s qualities that appealed to him, including the character’s “distinctive voice,” said he wanted an actor who could put their own spin on the villain. He continued, “Jared approached us because he loves Skeletor and has his own history with the character. He wanted to swing for the fences.”

Knight elaborated, saying that he worked with Leto to craft a portrayal that he was “really happy with.” He then shared that Skeletor will represent “the embodiment of toxic masculinity” in the movie.

Masters of the Universe is scheduled premiere in theaters on June 5, 2026. Knight directed the film from a screenplay by Aaron and Adam Nee, Chris Butler, and David Callaham. The Nees also co-developed the story with Alex Litvak and Michael Finch. Amazon MGM Studios will handle the film’s distribution in the United States and Canada, while Sony Pictures Releasing will handle international distribution.

Nicholas Galitzine leads the cast as He-Man. Supporting cast members include Leto, Camila Mendes, Alison Brie, James Purefoy, Morena Baccarin, and Idris Elba, among others.
