PFN to Otti: Don’t quit politics after 2031

The Pentecostal Fellowship of Nigeria (PFN), Abia State Chapter, has urged Governor Alex Otti not to quit politics after completing his second term in 2031, assuring him that his performance in office would secure his re-election in the 2027 governorship election.

The advice comes amid  opposition to the governor’s second-term ambition by a coalition of former governors. PFN said Otti’s record of achievements would outweigh any political pressure.

The position was conveyed by PFN’s immediate past State Chairman, Chikezie Elekwa, who led a delegation on a courtesy visit to the governor.

He appealed to Otti to allow the people, rather than personal resolve, to determine his political future.

“Please don’t decide to quit on your own. Let the people decide. You cannot serve for eight years and just disappear,” Elekwa said, adding that the governor would not need to campaign in 2027 as PFN was already mobilising support across the state.

He praised Governor Otti for restoring dignity and pride to Abia State and pledged the Church’s continued support, declaring that “Abians will never return to darkness.”

Elekwa also informed the governor that the current PFN State Chairman, Newlife Ugochukwu, was indisposed but remained fully supportive of the administration.

Responding, Governor Otti thanked PFN for its prayers and steadfast backing, acknowledging the Christian body’s role in his political journey since 2015.

He reaffirmed that his administration’s mission is to restore the dignity of Abians and rewrite the state’s narrative through collective governance.

While appreciating PFN’s call for him to remain active in politics beyond his tenure, the governor said such decisions must ultimately be guided by divine direction.

Those present included the Chief of Staff to the Governor, Caleb Ajagba; Chairman, Civil Service Commission, Eno Jerry Eze; SSA on Religious Matters, Kenneth Wiper; and the Director-General, Strategic Communication Bureau, Onyebuchi Ememanka, among others.
