Hit Prime Video Show Officially Renewed, Season 2 Release Date Gets Update

The Assassin has officially been renewed by Prime Video, confirming that the hit thriller will return for a second season. Alongside the renewal announcement, the platform has also provided a production update, offering a notable update of when viewers can expect the next season to premiere.

The Assassin Season 2 gets production update

As per Deadline, Prime Video has officially renewed The Assassin for a second season, confirming that the thriller will return with a new chapter. Although Deadline previously reported that Season 2 was in development, the renewal had not been formally announced until now. The platform has stated that production is scheduled to begin later this year. 

The series, created and written by Harry and Jack Williams, will continue the story of Edward and Julie after the fallout from a failed trip to Northern Europe. When the new season begins, the two find themselves estranged following a mysterious rift. Julie has slipped back into her old ways while also navigating the dating scene. Meanwhile, after a honeymoon that fails to go as planned, Edward is drawn back into Julie’s world. 

Season 2 will bring Edward and Julie back together as they take on Spain’s criminal underworld. Along the way, they will have to confront the unresolved issues between them.

In North America, the first season streamed on AMC Networks’ AMC+ in the United States and was available on Crave and CTV in Canada. With filming scheduled to commence later this year, the production timeline suggests that Season 2 could premiere in 2027. However, as of now, an exact release date has not been announced. 

Keeley Hawes and Freddie Highmore are returning for The Assassin Season 2

Prime Video has confirmed that The Assassin will move forward with its original leads, as Keeley Hawes and Freddie Highmore are set to return for Season 2. Hawes will return as Julie, a former assassin who was living quietly on a Greek island before her son Edward arrived looking for answers about his paternity. Highmore will again play Edward, whose arrival in Season 1 disrupted Julie’s life and brought her past back into focus.

The supporting cast is also set to reprise their roles. Shalom Brune-Franklin will return as Kayla, Edward’s determined fiancée. Meanwhile, Devon Terrell is back as Ezra, Kayla’s brother.
