Muscat – Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) has issued an official weather alert regarding a significant surge in North-Westerly wind activity starting from the evening of Sunday, February 15. According to the National Multi-Hazard Early Warning Centre, these weather conditions are expected to persist for several days, affecting the majority of the Sultanate’s governorates. The prevailing winds will lead to a noticeable drop in temperatures across the region and cause dust and sand to rise in open and desert areas, specifically within Buraimi, Dhahirah, Dakhliyah, North and South Sharqiyah, and Al Wusta.
In addition to the terrestrial impact, maritime conditions are set to deteriorate as the sea becomes moderate to rough along most Oman coastlines. Forecasters predict that maximum wave heights will reach between 1.5m and 3m, prompting warnings for mariners and coastal residents to exercise caution. While daily activities can generally continue, the public is advised to wear face masks in dusty areas to prevent the inhalation of particles and to monitor official meteorological updates closely as the situation develops over the coming week.
