Nalgonda: The Congress continued its dominance in Khammam district in the municipal elections, winning 83 of the 117 wards across five municipalities. With a clear majority, the party is set to elect its candidates as chairpersons in the municipalities.
In Madhira municipality, Congress secured 18 of the 22 wards, while the BRS won one ward. Deputy Chief Minister Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka campaigned extensively in Madhira in support of the party candidates.
In Edulapuram municipality, Congress won all 24 wards, while the BRS secured two wards. Revenue minister Ponguleti Srinivas Reddy focused on Edulapuram and campaigned in several wards during the elections. The BJP failed to open its account in the municipal elections in Khammam district.
Following the declaration of results, Congress leaders celebrated at the district party office, Sanjeeva Reddy Bhavan, where they cut a cake and distributed sweets to mark the party’s victory.
