Attempted arrest: He is our leader, nothing will happen – El-Rufai supporters say

Abuja — Supporters of former Kaduna State Governor, Malam Nasir El-Rufai, reportedly intervened on Thursday to prevent security personnel from detaining him at the Abuja airport.

Reports had it that security agents attempted to take El-Rufai into custody upon his arrival in the capital.

Sources say the former governor resisted the move, prompting his supporters to step in and escort him safely out of the airport.

Online video footage showed a large group of his backers guiding him through the terminal while chanting in his support. In one clip, supporters can be heard repeatedly declaring: “He is our leader, nothing will happen.”

The incident highlights the strong loyalty El-Rufai commands among his followers, who were determined to ensure his safe departure.

El-Rufai had recently warned that he believed an arrest could be imminent, making Thursday’s events a dramatic confirmation of his earlier concerns.
