The start of the 2026 Winter Olympics, which is currently taking place across multiple locations in Lombardy and Northeast Italy, has prompted several networks to put a host of their primetime shows on hiatus. With fans and dedicated viewers of primetime series wondering about the return of their favorite shows, let’s take a look at the projects that have changed their release schedules due to the global sporting event.
Here’s every primetime show that will be on hiatus due to Winter Olympics
With NBC covering the entire Winter Olympics, which spans from February 6 to February 22, the Comcast-owned network has made the most adjustments to its lineup of shows. However, other networks, including ABC and CBS, have also chosen to follow suit, likely in a bid not to lose any potential viewers to the sporting extravaganza. So, here’s every primetime show that has gone on hiatus during the Winter Olympics.
NBC
Due to its dedicated coverage of the Olympics, NBC has mostly preempted new episodes of the majority of its shows. The Voice: Battle of Champions will announce a return to its normal schedule on Monday, February 23, by airing a fresh episode in the 9 -11 PM slot, replacing Brilliant Minds. Meanwhile, Law & Order and SVU will resume their airing on Thursday, February 26. The One Chicago franchise, featuring Chicago Fire, Chicago Med, and Chicago PD, will join the party last with a three-way crossover event on Wednesday, March 4.
CBS
While CBS is not covering the Winter Olympics, most of its shows have been airing repeats since December 2025. FBI will make a return on Monday, February 23, shortly followed by the debut of its spin-off series, CIA, that same day. CBS’s Thursday and Friday night shows, which include Georgie & Mandy’s First Marriage, Ghosts, Matlock, Elsbeth, Fire Country, Sheriff Country, and Boston Blue, will also resume their seasons on February 26 and February 27, respectively. NCIS shows, featuring NCIS, NCIS: Origins, and NCIS: Sydney, will now return on March 4, instead of February 24, to make room for Donald Trump’s State of the Union address to Congress.
ABC
The Rookie and Will Trent will continue with their scheduled release pattern. However, 9-1-1, 9-1-1: Nashville, and Grey’s Anatomy will only come back on Thursday, February 26, with High Potential making a return on Tuesday, March 3. Abbott Elementary is another primetime show that will be on hiatus due to the Winter Olympics.
Fox
Unlike NBC, CBS, and ABC, Fox will retain the release schedule for most of its shows.
