The Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC) has released the January 2026 Operational Performance Factsheet, detailing the performance of grid-connected power plants across the country.

According to the report, Nigeria’s power plants recorded a Plant Availability Factor (PAF) of 36 per cent during the month, indicating that an average of 4,901 megawatts (MW) was available for dispatch out of the nation’s total installed capacity of 13,625 MW.

The factsheet also showed a strong Average Load Factor of 90 per cent, meaning that about 4,421 megawatt-hours per hour (MWh/h) of the available generation capacity was effectively utilised on the national grid.

NERC identified Ihovbor Power Plant (Unit 2), Kainji Power Plant (Unit 1), and Jebba Power Plant (Unit 1) as the top energy producers for the period, citing their high availability and efficient utilisation levels.

The commission said the operational performance data provides key insights into the state of the Nigerian Electricity Supply Industry (NESI) and supports informed decision-making aimed at improving power generation, reliability, and sustainability.

NERC urged stakeholders and the public to stay informed on developments within the sector, noting that the performance figures play a critical role in shaping the future of electricity supply in Nigeria.
