I was maybe ten screws into a bookshelf when I noticed the third one had gone bad. Where there used to be a cross pattern, now there was just shiny, mangled metal. And it wasn't like I'd been doing anything wrong—the screwdriver was fine, and I was using a quality tool brand. It turns out I'd grabbed a bit that looked correct but wasn't. Phillips and Pozidriv screw heads fool people all the time because they're almost identical unless you know what to look for. Learning the difference, plus paying attention to bit sizes, changed how I approach any project where I need a screw driver.
