BRS Overcomes Dissidence, Hopes For A Good Show

Except for an odd incident such as the one in Karimnagar where two candidates created a ruckus on not receiving B Forms outside former minister Gangula Kamalakar’s residence, the candidate selection has gone off smoothly.

“These are local elections and leaders at the local level are best placed to pick the candidates and they were empowered to complete this task. This is the right thing to,” said BRS working president K.T. Rama Rao.

“We appointed one in-charge for each municipality who oversaw the process and ensured that candidate selection went off smoothly and the B Forms were given to the local leaders for handing over to the selected candidates,” he said.

“When the last municipal polls were held, out of the 143 urban local bodies, the Congress and BJP between them won in just seven. In two of them, Manikonda and Maktal, they had to come together,” Rama Rao told Deccan Chronicle.

“Though typically a ruling party is seen as having the advantage in local body polls, we hope to win 40 to 50 per cent of the seats in the municipal polls. Based on panchayat results, and discontent among the people, our chances are very bright,” he said.

During a teleconference with the party’s constituency in-charges and municipal election coordinators on Tuesday, Rama Rao called on them to ensure that the party comes out with flying colours. He said leaders at the ground level must acknowledge those who were willing to set aside their own plans to contest these elections, and those who have been selected to contest, should reach out to such individuals, and have them join the campaign.
