EPL: Arsenal confirm major injury blow

Arsenal have confirmed that Mikel Merino is set to be out for an extended period with a foot injury.

In an official statement on Sunday, the Premier League club revealed Merino will undergo surgery.

The aim is for the Spanish midfielder to return before the end of this season.

The statement read: “Mikel is expected to be out of action for an extended period, with the aim of returning to full training before the end of the season.

“Everyone is fully focused on supporting Mikel to ensure he is back to full fitness as soon as possible.”

Merino missed the 3-2 win over Kairat Almaty in the Champions League due to suspension, but was not fit for the 4-0 victory at Leeds on Saturday.
