Tanzania – Tanzania Civil Aviation Authority has confirmed that 5 people lost their lives following a helicopter crash on Mount Kilimanjaro, Tanzania during a medical rescue mission on Wednesday.
The aircraft went down near the Barafu Camp at an altitude of approximately 4,700 m above sea level while attempting to conduct emergency operations on Africa’s highest peak. Local law enforcement officials reported that the victims included the pilot, a medical doctor, a mountain guide, and two foreign tourists whose nationalities have not yet been disclosed. Authorities are currently investigating the circumstances surrounding the incident on the mountain, which attracts nearly 50,000 climbers annually.
