Work begins on 42km road rehabilitation in Dhofar

Muscat – The Ministry of Transport, Communications and Information Technology has begun construction work on a project to maintain and rehabilitate the Madinat al Haqq–Yur–Tawi Ateer–Wadi Darbat road in Dhofar governorate, at a total cost of RO1.9mn.

The project covers a total length of 42km. Omar bin Ahmed Muflih, Director of the Roads Maintenance Department in Dhofar, said the first phase starts from Madinat al Haqq, passes through the Yur area and extends to just before the Tawi Ateer junction, covering a distance of 22km with a road width of 8m.

He explained that this phase includes the rehabilitation and resurfacing of damaged sections, widening the road to 8m, construction of box and pipe culverts, installation of concrete and steel guardrails, road markings and directional signage.

The second phase involves maintenance and rehabilitation works from the Tawi Ateer junction to the Wadi Darbat junction, over a length of 20km and a width of 9m. It will also include the installation of side guardrails and directional signs.

The project is scheduled for completion in July 2027. It forms part of efforts to develop infrastructure in Dhofar, improve traffic flow and enhance road safety, while strengthening connectivity between mountain roads linking Madinat al Haqq in Taqah with several residential communities and the Tawi Ateer area in Mirbat.
