Jan. 28 (UPI) -- Soccer star Trinity Rodman celebrated her latest goal by performing a viral dance with U.S. coach Emma Hayes during a blowout of Chile.
Rodman and Hayes performed the dance in the 68th minute of the 5-0 triumph Tuesday in Santa Barbara, Calif. Rodman previously attempted to get Hayes to dance with her during a goal she scored Saturday against Paraguay, but the coach declined.
"Last game, Emma didn't do it," Rodman told reporters. "She embarrassed me. Then, these couple days between games, I was like 'You better practice because if you put me in the second game, it will happen again.'
Rodman said Hayes told her she practiced the dance at the team hotel Monday and Tuesday. She said she gave her a grade of "10" because she is the head coach, but there is "room for improvement."
"These players keep me young, I'm not complaining," Hayes told TNT Sports.
Croix Bethune, Jameese Joseph and Emily Sams each scored in the first half for the Americans. Emma Sears added a fourth score in the 46th minute. Sams and Sears also logged assists.
Center midfielder Riley Jackson received a pass about 30 yards from the net to spark Rodman's score. She then chipped a ball toward the right corner flag. Rodman, a 64th-minute substitute, ran on to the pass, chopped her dribble around a defender and used her left foot to lace a shot past Chilean goalie Mary Valencia and into the left side of the net.
She then dashed out of the box toward the U.S. bench, pointing at Hayes. Rodman proceeded to stop a few feet in front of her coach, bend her knees and flail her arms, mimicking the viral dance created by New York Giants defensive lineman Dexter Lawrence.
Hayes mirrored the dance, while erupting in laughter. The performances triggered a round of applause from players on the bench.
The Americans outshot the Chileans 21-0, including a dozen attempts on target. They also held a 71.4% to 28.6% edge in possession. Ayo Oke and Yazmeen Ryan joined Sears, Sams and Jackson in logging assists against Chile.
Hayes' squad completed their fifth-consecutive match without allowing a goal and are on a six-game winning streak. The Americans are 27-3-2 since Hayes became head coach.
The U.S. women will take on Argentina in a SheBelieves Cup match March 1 in Nashville. They will take on Canada and Colombia, respectively, in additional SheBelieves Cup meetings March 4 and 7 in Columbus, Ohio and Harrison, N.J.
