In another twist to the Beckham family feud saga, a friend of Victoria Beckham claims she has been ‘vilified for that dance for almost four years now’.
We’re all well aware of ‘that dance’ now. It’s the ‘inappropriate’ dance that took place between Posh and her son, Brooklyn Beckham, at his wedding to Nicola Peltz.
In his bombshell statement, the 26-year-old stated his mum ‘hijacked’ his first dance with his new wife and ‘humiliated’ him in front of everyone.
DJ Fat Tony confirmed that singer Marc Anthony had invited Brooklyn up to the stage before calling for the ‘most beautiful woman in the room’ to join him.
Rather than the bride, he called out for Victoria, leaving Nicola, 31, to rush out of the room crying.
A friend of Victoria, 51, has now defended the Spice Girl after the antics left huge speculation over what style of dance could have possibly been that inappropriate.
‘She has nothing to apologise for, yet she has been vilified for that dance for almost four years now and that is disgusting,’ said a friend to the Mail on Sunday.
Internet sleuths have worked out that this was likely not the couple’s first dance of the entire wedding, but one to open the dance floor in the evening.
They claimed the Beckhams are simply a ‘tactile family’, adding: ‘David still kisses the boys when they come home – they have always been close and cuddly – and Brooklyn has been tactile, too.’
The insider pointed to how young Sir David and Victoria were as parents, insisting that while they are ‘soppy’, it is ‘authentic’.
‘Last week she was shamed for it,’ the source continued. ‘It is deeply unfair and upsetting. There was nothing inappropriate about the dance. Nicola just didn’t like that Brooklyn was dancing with his mother, so she ran off crying.
‘It wasn’t about how she was dancing – it was to an upbeat, dancey salsa song, not exactly a Marvin Gaye love song, for goodness’ sake. Why would you cry about that?’
Fans had gone mad over the implication in Brooklyn’s statement that Victoria had danced ‘inappropriately on’ him.
In his version of events, the hot sauce salesman wrote: ‘In front of our 500 wedding guests, Marc Anthony called me to the stage where in the schedule was planned to be my romantic dance with my wife but instead my mum was waiting to dance with me.’
DJ Fat Tony – who also performed at the occasion – appeared on This Morning to shed some light on the bizarre wedding fumble.
He largely placed responsibility on Marc Anthony, claiming he told Brooklyn to put his hands on his mother’s hips after calling Victoria to join her son on the floor.
‘It was a Latin thing,’ Fat Tony – real name Anthony Marnoch – explained. ‘That whole situation was really awkward for everyone in the room.’
Victoria has become something of a meme since the scathing 800-word statement dropped, with videos of her dancing going viral.
Her solo music even reached number one on the iTunes chart as fans streamed Not Such An Innocent Girl.
The Spice Girls have reportedly rallied around Posh, with the fashion designer’s birthday message to Emma Bunton breaking her social media silence.
A source previously told Metro that ‘Emma in particular has been showing her a lot of love and support’, even checking in during her 50th birthday celebrations.
‘They know Victoria well and understand she must be feeling embarrassed and devastated over Brooklyn’s statement, especially that he aired it so publicly for the world to see,’ they continued.
‘After all, they’ve been there throughout Brooklyn’s life so can’t help but feel upset over this turn of events.’
Brooklyn declared emphatically that he does not wish to reconcile with his former footballer pro dad and fashion designer mum, despite recent swirling reports that a reunion could be on the cards.
