Coronation Street’s Lisa Swain (Vicky Myers) struggled through Christmas Day with wife Becky Swain (Amy Cudden) by her side, though it was clear her thoughts were with Carla Connor (Alison King), despite their recent split.
What she didn’t anticipate as part of the festive celebrations was Evelyn Plummer (Maureen Lipman) laying down some hard truths – and making an unexpected confession…
Things were going reasonably well for Carla and Lisa before Becky’s resurrection earlier this year, but the return of Lisa’s supposedly-dead wife tore them apart.
Becky has worked tirelessly to win back Lisa and daughter Betsy Swain (Sydney Martin), and it seems she has finally succeeded – though not by fighting fairly.
After deciding she could no longer put up with Becky’s meddling, Carla called it quits on her relationship with Lisa, before ultimately opting to give things another go.
However, Lisa decided that it was for the best that they break up after all, and Carla jetted off to Lanzarote for a solo holiday – or so Lisa believes.
Rather than ‘living her best life’ on the beach as Lisa has been led to think, Carla is actually much closer to home, tied up in the closet of a flat.
It transpired that Carla had been kidnapped by Becky, who wasn’t going to accept defeat when it came to winning back her family.
Unfortunately for Becky, the lie about Carla sunning it up in Lanzarote faced scrutiny in tonight’s episode, when Lisa got a text from Roy Cropper (David Neilson) revealing that Carla had never checked into her hotel.
Becky did her best to reassure Lisa that all was well, before rushing off to cover her tracks.
However, things backfired when Carla refused to do as Becky asked and record a voice note for Lisa, arguing that Becky wouldn’t get away with her abduction.
With Becky distracted, Carla hid her phone, but was caught out when it started ringing with a call from Betsy.

As Becky threatened her with a knife, Carla followed her instructions and told Betsy that she had checked into a different hotel called the Rhubarb Hill.
This obviously sparked suspicions from Becky, but Carla covered her back by insisting that she had panicked under the pressure.
However, viewers will know that Rhubarb and Hill were two of the random words DI Costello (Daon Broni) had been mumbling after his assault. Carla was clearly trying to send a secret message, but Betsy didn’t catch on.
When Becky returned to No.6, she was surprised to find Roy and Evelyn there, with Betsy sharing the news that she’d heard from Carla.
This had buoyed Lisa’s mood immensely, but Evelyn wasn’t convinced that it was a good sign.
She pointed out to a puzzled Lisa that Carla answering Betsy’s call only confirmed the detective’s fears that she was ignoring her, before urging Lisa to face the facts.
When Lisa questioned what these facts were, her response came as a shock to everyone.
‘Maybe she’s just not cut out to be a lesbian.’
If the Swains hadn’t been expecting that, then Evelyn’s next admission left them completely gobsmacked.
‘A lot of people aren’t. I know I wasn’t!’
Seriously, Lisa’s face was an absolute picture.
While Evelyn’s bombshell was highly entertaining to us, it did little to comfort Lisa, who was clearly still hung up on Carla’s absence.
Not knowing the truth, is she at risk of never seeing her lover again? Or is Carla right to suspect that Lisa will get to the truth in the end?
