Teens as young as 13 charged after knives used during Melbourne home invasion, assault

Three teenagers have been charged after a 75-year-old man was allegedly assaulted and threatened by knife-wielding intruders in his home in Melbourne's south-east.

Police allege three boys broke into the property in Hampton Park at about 3.30am today armed with large kitchen knives.

The teenagers allegedly threatened the man, assaulted him and stole his car.

The man suffered minor injuries and was treated at the scene.

A woman who was home at the time was not physically injured.

Police said they found the car near Arena Parade in Officer and seized two large kitchen knives from the vehicle.

Officers arrested a 13-year-old boy, a 16-year-old boy and a 15-year-old boy.

The trio has been charged with aggravated home invasion, making threats to kill, false imprisonment, assault by kicking, assault with weapon, theft of motor vehicle, criminal damage and possessing a controlled weapon.

They will appear before a children's court today.
