- Amber Davies faced claims her Strictly routine copied steps from The Great Gatsby
- BBC clarified the choreography was original but included a nod to Amber’s theatre work
- The star has faced an increasing amount of criticism
The BBC has responded to claims that Amber Davies ‘copied’ her routine from The Great Gatsby in last week’s Strictly Come Dancing episode.
Last week, the West End star danced a Charleston to Sit Down, You’re Rockin’ The Boat from Guys And Dolls during Musicals Week on Strictly.
During one part of a sequence in the choreography, included dance steps she had previously performed while starring in The Great Gatsby at the London Coliseum earlier this year.
The footage was taken from West End Live, an event in Trafalgar Square on June 21, where audiences are treated to highlights of the stage.

The footage of both sequences has now circulated online, with fans noting the duplication.
However Metro understands that this was a deliberate easter egg from the dancing duo, and the routine was made of entirely fresh choreography.
‘This was a new routine choreographed for Strictly Come Dancing, which – as already discussed online – briefly paid tribute to The Great Gatsby as a nod to Musicals Week,’ said the BBC.
While on a podcast with her dance partner Nikita Kuzmin, the star revealed that the steps were a deliberate for fans of Amber’s theatre work.
While on Talk of the Townsends podcast, Amber commented: ‘I asked if I could just put a little easter egg because obviously the new money routine went viral on social media.
‘So I just thought it would be like, illegal, for me to not at least put [in something].’
Nikita added that it was ‘probably the only thing she’s asked to add in all of the routines we’ve done.
Nikita has been forced to defend Amber recently, saying on Strictly that she was enduring ‘hate every single day’ from viewers of the show but nevertheless ‘came every single day into the training room with a big smile, ignoring everybody.’
The star has been scrutinised ever since she joined the show as a replacement for Dani Dyer. Many critics suggested that her West End work gave her a dancing edge over other contestants and that she shouldn’t have been allowed to participate.
He added: ‘You were always so kind, you’re so caring. You care more about me when I’m supposed to care about you.
‘You care about me every single day. You are such a lovely, positive person.’
He added: ‘Please, please be kind because it costs nothing and you don’t deserve none of that.’
