The bleeding victim then stumbled into a car in the driveway and his friend began to drive him to hospital.

But just five minutes later the car collided with another vehicle on Clyde Five Ways Road.

Witnesses tried to help the bleeding man before he was airlifted to hospital, where he later died.

Police arrested a 27-year-old man on Carrera Crescent.

The Homicide Squad is investigating.

The Clyde stabbing came just hours before another fatal stabbing in Melbourne's inner north.

A man was rushed to hospital just before 10pm last night after he was found with suspected stab wounds at a home on Napier Street, Fitzroy.

He died in hospital.

A crime scene has been established and investigations are ongoing.
