Two women have come forward with allegations of sexual abuse against Spanish singer Julio Iglesias, claiming the incidents took place while they were employed as live-in staff at his luxury homes in the Caribbean.
The accusations, published after a joint investigation by elDiario.es and Univision, concern events alleged to have occurred in 2021, when Iglesias was 77.
One of the women was 22 at the time.
According to the investigation, the alleged incidents took place at properties owned by the singer in Punta Cana and Lyford Cay.
Both women were employed in roles that required them to live on site, a dynamic they say created an environment of dependency and control.
One of the accusers, identified under the pseudonym Rebeca, worked as a domestic employee.
She told the outlets that she was repeatedly summoned to Iglesias’ bedroom late at night and felt unable to refuse.
In her account, she alleges that she was pressured into sexual encounters and subjected to physical, verbal, and psychological abuse.
She described feeling dehumanised by the experience, saying she was treated ‘like an object.’
Rebeca also alleged that the encounters frequently occurred in the presence of another senior staff member, a claim that, if substantiated, would raise further questions about the working conditions inside the household.
The second woman, referred to as Laura, worked as a physiotherapist. She alleged that Iglesias kissed her without consent and touched her breasts against her will.
Laura further claimed she was exposed to a pattern of insults, humiliation, and inappropriate behaviour during her employment, describing what she characterised as an atmosphere of constant harassment and intimidation.
Both women told elDiario.es and Univision that they feared professional and personal repercussions if they spoke out at the time, citing Iglesias’ wealth, influence, and the isolated nature of the residences where they worked.
The journalists behind the investigation said they made repeated attempts to contact Iglesias and his legal representatives via email, telephone, and written correspondence delivered to his residences, but received no response.
They also reported unsuccessful efforts to contact the individual responsible for managing the property where some of the alleged incidents took place.
However, a former manager at the Punta Cana residence, identified by Rebeca as her initial supervisor, rejected the claims outright.
She described the allegations as ‘nonsense,’ and said she held only ‘gratitude, admiration, and respect’ for Iglesias, portraying him as generous, respectful, and considerate towards women.
No criminal charges have been announced at this stage. Iglesias has not publicly commented on the allegations, and the accusations remain unproven.
Who is Julio Iglesias
Born in Madrid in 1943, Julio Iglesias is one of the most commercially successful Latin artists of all time, with a career spanning more than five decades.
He went on to sell an estimated 300 million records worldwide after beginning his career in the 1960s, recording in more than a dozen languages and becoming a rare crossover star in Europe, Latin America, and the United States.
Hits such as Hey, To All the Girls I’ve Loved Before, and La Vida Sigue Igual cemented his reputation as an emblem of old-school masculinity, while his private life — including his high-profile relationships and large family, among them singer Enrique Iglesias — often attracted as much attention as his music.
By the 1990s and 2000s, Iglesias had largely retreated from public performance, living mostly between luxury residences in the Caribbean and the US.
