It’s set to be an epic showdown when madman John Sugden (Oliver Farnworth) from Emmerdale makes his appearance in the huge Corriedale crossover episode.
John was last seen earlier this year ditching the country in Caleb Milligan’s (William Ash) van after his true identity was revealed – a cold-blooded killer who’d murdered Nate, tried to kill Mackenzie Boyd (Lawrence Robb), and pushed husband Aaron Dingle (Danny Miller) off the edge of a ravine. Plus a few other bits and pieces of utter madness.
But a cheeky little wanted poster in Weatherfield gave the game away that he might be making his way back. And return he has, in a pretty explosive way.
He’s back in town ready to do damage and fight for his husband, but he’s foiled by Robert Sugden (Ryan Hawley) and Aaron, who have him bound and gagged in their flat. A gun is trained on him but just when it seems obvious how this will play out, Aaron knocks Robert unconscious.
There’s a glimmer of hope in John’s eye that there’s a possible future for him and Aaron. John and Aaron prepare to flee with Robert still out for the count, and Aaron gives credence to John’s dreams by confirming them with a kiss.
In that moment, John lets himself and his guard down as Aaron seizes both the opportunity and the gun, turning the tables on his deranged ex. With the gun in hand, he forces John in the car and orders him to drive them to the police station to turn him in.
Robert comes round to discover them gone and panic sets in. With no way of going after them himself, he begs Joe Tate (Ned Porteous) to help – they need to save Aaron from mad medic John.
Aaron has the gun pointed at John forcing him to drive, but with nothing to lose by fighting a man with a weapon, John is plotting. As things get worse, John hits the accelerator forcing Aaron to dive for the wheel. At the same time, John lunges for the gun, and chaos ensues.
There is a huge pile up seemingly involving Aaron and John, and Corrie’s Becky and Lisa, with Corrie’s Kit and Carla arriving to help save those trapped.
In the trailer, Robert can be heard screaming for his lover – is Aaron trapped and dying? Eagle-eyed viewers also spotted what they think was Joe Tate’s name above a hospital bed in the trailer, could helping Robert cost him his life?
And with all that going on, what will be come of John; death, escape…murder?
