If you’re planning to do some very last-minute food shopping for Christmas, there’s one place you might want to head to today – and it’s not Tesco, M&S or Aldi.

Shoppers online have been raving about a different retailer, and it’s even received the stamp of approval from Martin Lewis himself.

It’s Costco that we’re talking about, and while the wholesale warehouse isn’t a traditional supermarket, it’s got all of the bits and bobs you’ll need to whip up a fantastic festive feast.

But it’s specifically the dessert range that’s got people talking ahead of December 25.

Photos of the various puddings available at Costco UK have been shared online in the Food Finds UK group on Facebook and by @newfoodspotteruk on Instagram.

The selection includes a chocolate Tuxedo Bar Cake (£17.99), a Fruit Cake Bar (£13.99), a Tiramisu Bar Cake (£12.99), a Raspberry and Almond Roulade (£13.99), a Yule Log (£16.99) and Dubai chocolate-style mousses (£6.99).

There are also gluten-free Doughlicious Rainbow Double Chocolate Cookies, mince pies, festive cupcakes, and a giant butter brioche tear-and-share bread (£5.99).

People were quick to brand the desserts the ‘best’ they’d seen so far this year, with Sonia Worton saying: ‘The best selection of desserts I’ve seen this year, something a bit different.’

A few people also claimed that some of the products were ‘cheaper than M&S’. Though it’s worth noting that the showstoppers at Marks & Spencer this year are priced between £14 and £16, so actually, it’s pretty similar on this front.

On TikTok, fans thought the desserts looked ‘fantastic’, while others were annoyed they hadn’t purchased their desserts from Costco, admitting they’d ‘missed a trick’.

The Tuxedo Bar Cake and Yule Log seem to be the favourites with people saying they’re ‘yummy’, and the cookies also caused a stir on Instagram, as customers declared them ‘amazing’.

How can I shop at Costco?

For those who have never been, Costco is a wholesale warehouse, which sells everything from food to clothing, electronics, toiletries and books in bulk and at discounted prices.

There are currently 29 stores across the UK, but you can’t just waltz into one off the street, as the retailer requires a membership, which starts from £42 per year (£35 plus VAT). For this price, you get to shop online and in the Costco warehouses and receive two membership cards.

The criteria for getting a membership are pretty strict, but if you meet them and have a larger household or are throwing a big party, the cost can be worth it.

Those eligible to apply for a membership include business owners and managers, or current or retired employees in sectors such as civil service, police, health, education, airlines, fire and rescue, local government, post office, etc.

For a full list of professions that are eligible, visit the Costco website.

Costco has also been hailed as a real ‘winner’ for doing the Christmas shop by Money Saving Expert, Martin Lewis, recently.

In his newsletter, he claimed this is because Costco is ‘very competitive on brands’.

For Christmas items specifically, the team found that it was the ‘cheapest’ for 14 out of 15 branded products, including a Veuve Clicquot Champagne, panettone and smoked salmon.

Their findings are based on a random sample of 15 items in November 2025, with the test comparing products at Costco to items elsewhere using Trolley.co.uk and Google Shopping.
