Peaky Blinders fans are growing more and more certain that the Netflix movie, The Immortal Man, will spell a grisly end for Tommy Shelby.

The Steven Knight movie sequel to the hit six-season show is on the horizon and, as far as we know, marks Tommy’s swan song as we dive into the World War Two era.

How exactly Tommy’s fate pans out remains to be seen, but in a new interview, Cillian Murphy has teased filming an ’emotional’ last scene, which has sparked concern that the gang leader may very well die.

He discussed his experience filming his final scene on set (we must caveat by saying that doesn’t necessarily mean the last scene in the movie).

‘We were on the side of a hill in the Peak District somewhere, in the pissing rain, and we were losing the light. But it was a really emotional scene,’ he recalled to Empire magazine, noting that afterwards everyone just drove off.

As such, the Irish actor quipped: ‘So it was absolutely, completely underwhelming.’

Looking toward the March release date, he shared: ‘I don’t think I’m going to be able to process it or think about it until the film comes out, because I believe that a film isn’t finished until people look at it.’

His poignant words have raised alarm bells among fans online.

‘The way [Steven Knight] and Cillian talk about the film bringing Tommy’s story to a close and closing that chapter speaks volumes to me,’ Reddit user Dark_KnightNini said about speculation over the beloved character’s death.

‘It’s pretty obvious the film will be the end of Tommy’s story, whether he’ll be alive or dead by the credits is anyone’s guess,’ Remarkable-Bus2362 said.

The movie will introduce a new generation of the gang, led by Barry Keoghan, who is joining the cast for the film.

It’s likely this will set us up for the confirmed spin-off sequel, which will be executive-produced by Cillian, although so far it seems Tommy won’t be making an actual appearance in the show.

Yet another clue that the ‘immortal man’ may not be so immortal after all.

As put by Knight in his chat with Empire, he said: ‘[The movie is] the last few chapters of a long novel, where you get to round it off. And prepare people for what comes next.’

The synopsis for The Immortal Man reads: ‘Birmingham, 1940. Amidst the chaos of WWII, Tommy Shelby is driven back from a self-imposed exile to face his most destructive reckoning yet.

‘With the future of the family and the country at stake, Tommy must face his own demons, and choose whether to confront his legacy, or burn it to the ground. By order of the Peaky Blinders…’

The cast also features Rebecca Ferguson, Stephen Graham, Tim Roth and Sophie Rundle.

Although stars like Paul Anderson, who played Tommy’s brother Arthur, are notably absent, marking yet another sign that the old generation is tipping their hats.

Peaky Blinders: The Immortal Man arrives in cinemas on March 6 and on Netflix on March 20, 2026.
