Tom Brady called out Pro Football Hall of Fame voters after they kept Bill Belichick away from the Hall in the first ballot. As an eight-time Super Bowl champion (six as a head coach) and the second-winningest coach of all time (333 total wins, 14 behind Don Shula), Belichick looked like a lock to enter the Hall.

However, he failed to get the 40 of 50 votes he needed to become a Hall of Famer. The results raised plenty of eyebrows around the league, with many fans and analysts, even those who rooted against Belichick’s Patriots, demanding answers.

Former Patriots quarterback Tom Brady didn’t mince words when discussing the situation. The Las Vegas Raiders minority owner, whose relationship with Belichick went sour at the end of his tenure with the Patriots, expressed his confusion about Belichick’s snub.

“I don’t understand it,” Brady said. “If he’s not a first ballot Hall-of-Famer, there’s really no coach that should ever be a first ballot Hall-of-Famer, which is completely ridiculous because people deserve it. He’s incredible. There’s no coach I’d rather play for. If I’m picking one coach to go out there and win a Super Bowl, give me one season, I’m taking Bill Belichick. That’s enough said.

“When it comes down to votes and popularity and all that, welcome to the world of voting. You may as well go try out for the Oscars or whatever. Get a big panel to tell you whether you’re good or not. It’s the way it works. He’s going to get into the Hall of Fame. In the end, I’m not worried about that. A lot of times in life for all of us, things don’t happen exactly how you want them on your timeline, but we’ll all be there to celebrate him when it does happen.”

Tom Brady was Belichick’s quarterback during his nine Super Bowl trips. They went 6-3, creating one of the most dominant dynasties in NFL history. Despite going their separate ways in 2020, Brady and Belichick have remained cordial with one another.

This situation has raised plenty of questions, and it doesn’t seem like we have heard the last of it.
