This week in Emmerdale, we’ve gone back time, specifically to January 2, the day Ray Walters (Joe Absolom) was murdered.
We’ve known about Ray’s death for a little while now, but we’ve not seen what happened in the lead up to him being killed.
That’s what this week has been for. So far, we’ve seen the day play out from Laurel Thomas (Charlotte Bellamy) and Rhona Goskirk’s (Zoe Henry) perspectives. Tonight, focus was on Paddy Kirk (Dominic Brunt), Marlon Dingle (Mark Charnock) and Ross Barton (Michael Parr).
As Ross forced Marlon to tell him about what’s been going on with Ray and April Windsor (Amelia Flanagan), Paddy was at Tenants with Dylan Penders (Fred Kettle), who had something important to tell him about his dad.
Dylan revealed everything about Bear Wolf (Joshua Richards) working as a slave on Celia Daniels’ (Jaye Griffiths) farm. Paddy was utterly horrified, and his natural reaction was to leap out of his seat and prepare to go and find his dad.
But it wasn’t that simple. Dylan explained to Paddy that if he got close to the truth, Celia and Ray would just put him in danger to ensure their operation wasn’t exposed. Paddy had to stay away.
Outside, Paddy eyed Ray, who was walking across the street after leaving Laurel’s. He approached Ray with anger in his eyes, pinning him against a pillar and demanding to know where his dad is.
Ray told Paddy that Bear was never kept against his will, and that he was genuinely working on the farm for him and his mum.
He also noted that he really liked Bear, and thought he was like a father to him.
Ray explained Bear’s situation as though he hadn’t gone through anything terrible, but Paddy knew this was a lie.
As a result of everything Dylan had told him, and the fact the teen was a victim of Celia and Ray’s abuse as well, Paddy knew the person Bear once was no longer existed, and any comments from Ray that suggested otherwise just upset him even further.

Paddy was still desperate to know where Bear was – but did not for one second expect Ray to tell him that he’s dead. As if the situation wasn’t already horrendous, Ray then revealed that Celia killed Bear, and his final few moments were completely awful.
The threats from Paddy didn’t work on Ray because he knew full well that the local vet was in too deep. We don’t often see Paddy an angry man, but the discoveries made tonight about Bear are bound to push him to the edge.
Will he end up being the one who kills Ray?
If he does, how will he find Bear’s body?
