Texas A&M's 2026 coaching staff is all but complete, but after ace recruiter Jordan Peterson, who also served as the program's longtime defensive backs coach, departed to join former offensive coordinator Collin Klein, now Kansas State's head coach, as the Wildcats' defensive coordinator, head coach Mike Elko has been in search of the team's new cornerbacks coach.

While Ishmael Aristide is still on staff, AggieYell insider Jaxson Callaway reports and confirms that Elko is looking to make an external hire for the position after elevating wide receivers coach Holmon Wiggins to offensive coordinator and assistant Joey Lynch to quarterbacks coach late last month. This decision will be based on recruiting prowess, development background, and overall experience.

According to Callaway, Mike Elko hoped to have a hire secured by this past weekend, but inclement weather across much of the country, including College Station, postponed recruiting visits, and the search for the new CB coach continues. While Elko has reportedly interviewed a host of candidates, including Georgia Tech defensive backs coach Cory Peoples, a name to watch has been kept under wraps.

Still, Callaway stated that an announcement could and should be made this week, putting the finishing touches on a coaching staff that will lead the Aggies into the 2026 season. So far, the lone external hires are new tight ends coach Derek Shay, defensive line coach Elijah Robinson, and linebackers coach Travis Williams.
