The departure of Pedro ‘Dro’ Fernandez from Barcelona has now been officially confirmed, bringing an end to one of the most talked-about youth stories at the club this season.
The highly rated midfielder has completed a permanent move to Paris Saint-Germain.
Dro first caught attention during Barcelona’s pre-season tour of Asia. Expectations quickly rose around the youngster, but the reality of the competitive season proved different.
Despite being part of the first-team setup, minutes on the pitch were extremely limited in the opening months, which ultimately played a role in his decision to seek a new challenge.
How much will Barcelona receive?
Although PSG could have triggered Dro’s €6 million release clause, the French champions opted to pay more to smooth negotiations, with the final fee reaching around €8.2 million.
The midfielder has signed a long-term contract running until 2030 and will wear the number 27 shirt in Paris.
Barcelona confirmed the move through an official announcement on their reserve team’s account. In a brief but respectful message, the club stated,
“FC Barcelona and PSG have reached an agreement for the transfer of player Pedro Fernández, ‘Dro’, to the Parisian club.
“The club wishes him the best of luck in the future, both personally and professionally.”
PSG, meanwhile, chose a more theatrical approach. Before making the deal public, the club shared a teaser image on social media showing a player strongly resembling Dro standing in front of a PSG flag.
Minutes later, the suspense ended with a clear and welcoming message – “Bienvenue Dro Fernández!”
It must be noted that Barcelona had planned to renew Dro’s contract. This intention was communicated to both the player and his agent, Ivan de la Pena.
However, the midfielder was keen for immediate clarity and a defined role, something PSG were able to offer straight away.
