Squid Game creator Hwang Dong-hyuk certainly isn’t resting on his laurels after his K-drama megahit wrapped up its run on Netflix.
He’s already nailed down his next project for the streamer, with elements that the pre-existing death game fans can get in on, plus an additional supernatural element.
Netflix confirmed that production is already underway in South Korea on The Dealer, with Hwang on board to produce and a cast including Jung So-min, Ryoo Seung-bum and Lee Soo-hyuk.
The show has been touted as a ‘high-stakes casino crime drama’ from Hwang’s Firstman Studio company, which was also behind Squid Game.
The crime series follows Geonhwa, a natural casino dealer whose wedding plans go to pieces when she becomes caught up in a housing scam.

According to the official logline, she’s then forced back into the gambling world she had hoped to have left behind.
Geonhwa re-enters this shadowy underworld with long-hidden powers she’s now prepared to unleash, which give her an edge at the tables – all so she can try and get down the aisle.
The series stars Jung So-min – of Love Reset and Alchemy of Souls – as Geonhwa, in what Netflix has described as a radical departure from her previous roles, playing a woman who has spent years hiding the supernatural powers that can help her along in any game.
She’s joined by Ryoo Seung-bum as Hwang Chisu, a desperate gambling addict who lives from one bet to the next, until he becomes entangled in Geonhwa’s money-grabbing scheme.
Then Lee Soo-hyuk co-stars as Jo Jun, a formidable casino player whose poker face makes him an unreadable presence at the tables. Then Ryu Kyung-soo completes the top-billed cast as Geonhwa’s fiancé Choi Wooseung, who is also a police detective.
The news of Hwang’s new series for Netflix has already been met with excitement from fans. Reacting to the news on X, @iamraaaaaj described it as ‘superb’, while another fan hailed it as already an ‘epic’ project.
Alluding to how much Hwang has said he went through to get Squid Game to the screen, Reddit user @thesmash wrote: ‘I hope he loses fewer teeth this time from making this show!’
