Seeb – The Ministry of Health (MoH) has officially inaugurated the new Central Public Health Laboratory, a world-class facility developed at a total cost of approximately RO 18.2 mn. Built on an expansive land area of 53,000 square metres with a built-up area of 19,480 square metres, the complex is located in Seeb.

This strategic project marks a significant milestone in Oman’s healthcare infrastructure, featuring state-of-the-art technologies and advanced laboratory facilities designed to meet international biosafety standards. The three-storey building houses specialised departments for virology, bacteriology, toxicology, and genetic sequencing, alongside Biosafety Level 2 and 3 laboratories.

The Central Public Health Laboratory includes a number of reference laboratories cooperating with the World Health Organization, including the Regional Polio Laboratory, Measles Laboratory, the National Influenza Laboratory and an emerging disease centre. As a national and regional reference centre, the laboratory will play a pivotal role in epidemiological surveillance, outbreak response, and the enhancement of national health security through high-precision diagnostic services.
