Man and dog die on Christmas Eve after fire breaks out in flat

A man and a dog have died after a fire broke out in an apartment in the early hours on Christmas Eve.

Emergency services were called to the property in Glenrothes, Fife, at around 1.30am.

Both victims were found dead inside the flat.

It is not yet clear if anyone else was present inside the home, or if other flats in the same building were affected.

At least one ambulance and two fire engines were present in the aftermath.

Locals said the flat was still being guarded by police officers at around 8.30am.

Police Scotland said a joint investigation between detectives and fire investigators will ‘establish the full circumstances’.
