It’s not something we see often these days, but Scottie Scheffler reached a new milestone with his win at The American Express, marking his first ever PGA Tour victory in January.

He started the year with a strong performance at La Quinta, finishing four shots ahead of the field. Even though bigger tests might be on the horizon, his win there felt like an early statement of intent.

The 29-year-old had to ease into 2025 after picking up a hand injury over Christmas. That didn’t slow him down much, though – he still went on to claim two majors that season.

Scottie Scheffler didn’t start last season in top form, but still managed a fourth-place finish at the Masters. There’s no sign of that same sluggishness this year. And with a win already in the books, he looks sharp early on.

“I think he’s probably one of the most complete players we’ve seen in a long time,” Wagner told CBS Sports. “And what you notice about Scottie over the last year or so with all these wins, really since May at the Byron Nelson, he’s starting to win golf tournaments by an incredible margin. How many events he’s won by four plus strokes in the last six, seven months is absolutely ridiculous.”

“I think it’s scary if you’re a player on the PGA Tour right now, seeing the way Scottie’s just starting to dominate stuff,” Wagner added.

“And then when you listen to him talk about how he prepared in the off-season, he’s trying to do things in the gym to make his longevity a little better, to make his body react better and be more consistent over time. He’s getting old now; he’ll turn 30 this summer. So, he’s already looking into his late 30s.

Stat that highlights Scheffler’s consistency

It’s strange to think back to the 2021 Ryder Cup, when Scottie Scheffler was picked for Whistling Straits without a single PGA Tour win to his name.

Just over a year later, he had picked up his first victory, and around that same time, he missed what remains his last cut on the tour.

Since then, he has gone on to put together one of the most remarkable stretches in recent memory.

“On that same note about the missed cuts, so Scottie Scheffler in his career now, 152 PGA Tour events, he’s missed 19 cuts, he’s got 20 wins. There aren’t many people in professional golf history that have more wins than missed cuts. And I absolutely think that this is a mind-blowing stat,” he said.

The rise of no-cut signature events has changed how we look at made-cuts stats. Even so, Scheffler still plays enough full-field tournaments each season to keep the number meaningful.

He even has more wins than missed cuts at major championships alone—a stat that arguably tops Wagner’s original point.
