The Executive Chairman of Itire-Ikate Local Council Development Area (LCDA), Mr. Daniel Odunayo, has marked his first 100 days in office with a strong emphasis on people-centred governance, accountability, and youth-focused development, as he unveiled a series of projects and policy initiatives aimed at improving living standards within the council area.
Activities commemorating the milestone included the inauguration of seven newly completed roads across the LCDA, as well as the presentation of three official buses to the Council Legislature, the Chairman’s Office, and the National Union of Local Government Employees (NULGE). The interventions, Odunayo said, reflect his administration’s commitment to strengthening institutions and enhancing service delivery at the grassroots.
Speaking at the event, the council chairman said his leadership is guided by measurable outcomes rather than rhetoric, noting that his administration remains determined to ensure that residents feel the impact of governance through visible and sustainable projects.
He explained that the road projects form part of wider interventions already executed within his short period in office, assuring residents that development efforts would continue across key sectors of the local economy and social services.
Odunayo identified youth empowerment as a cornerstone of his administration, disclosing ongoing investments in education, technology, sports, and skills development. He noted that several secondary school projects had been completed, alongside the introduction of vocational training programmes for young people, including the provision of sewing machines to support skills acquisition.
Describing education as a powerful tool against poverty, the chairman revealed that free GCE forms were distributed to students in the LCDA, many of whom have already sat for the examinations. He also announced plans to upgrade and modernise local markets to boost economic activities for traders and market women.
In the area of environmental sustainability, Odunayo announced the inauguration of a 45-member environmental task force tasked with enforcing sanitation regulations and addressing indiscriminate waste disposal. He stressed that a clean environment remains critical to public health and orderly urban development.
Looking ahead, the chairman reaffirmed his administration’s long-term commitment to youth development, pledging further investments in schools, housing, sports facilities, and ICT centres to equip young people with relevant skills and opportunities.
The event was attended by party leaders and stakeholders, including the Lagos State Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Pastor Cornelius Ojelabi, who commended Odunayo’s early performance and welfare-driven initiatives.
Ojelabi disclosed that plans were underway to deepen transparency at the local government level through regular public engagement forums, which would enable residents to review projects, ask questions, and assess council performance through independent evaluations.
He added that increased local government autonomy and the proposed tax reforms expected to take effect in January would strengthen council finances and enhance project implementation, while cautioning council officials against complacency, noting that underperformance would attract scrutiny from relevant oversight bodies.
