This article contains spoilers for tonight’s Coronation Street, which has not yet aired on TV but is available to watch now on ITVX.

Todd Grimshaw (Gareth Pierce) has been at the heart of a harrowing abuse storyline in Coronation Street in recent months, with partner Theo Silverton’s (James Cartwright) behaviour growing increasingly aggressive, controlling and manipulative.

In tonight’s episode, Theo’s jealousy shone through as he berated Todd for his childhood crush on Nick Tilsley (Ben Price).

While Todd and Nick shared an innocent conversation about running routes, Sarah Platt (Tina O’Brien) revealed his previous crush to Theo, unaware of what the consequences would be.

Theo had already demonstrated his unhappiness at Summer Spellman (Harriet Bibby) gifting Todd a ticket to a Q&A with his celebrity crush, and went so far as to book them a weekend away for the same dates to stop him being able to go.

After driving to pick up a cake for George Shuttleworth (Tony Maudsley) in tonight’s episode, Theo confronted Todd, who argued that his conversation with Nick meant nothing and his feelings for him were long in the past.

Unfortunately, Theo wasn’t convinced, and drove off with the cake, leaving Todd to make his own way home from across Manchester.

This isn’t the first time Theo has been abusive toward Todd, and sadly, it may not be the last.

What has happened to Todd so far?

When Todd and Theo’s relationship first began, it was tense for completely different reasons.

Theo was married to Danielle Silverton (Natalie Anderson) and had two children at home. Not only that, but he was facing internalised homophobia after being subjected to conversion therapy in his teens.

Once Danielle had uncovered Theo’s relationship with Todd, they split up, and Theo moved in with his boyfriend.

Over the following weeks, Theo started to grow controlling, berating Todd for the food he chose to eat and even forcefully feeding him kebab meat.

As their relationship continued, things only got worse. Theo has pushed Todd beyond his limits with his exercise regime, having signed him up to do a marathon against his wishes.

He has continually gaslit Todd by blaming him for upsetting people and meddling in situations, and isolated him from friends like Summer and Billy Mayhew (Daniel Brocklebank).

When Todd felt unable to put up with Theo’s behaviour any longer, Theo turned to self-harm, leaving Todd feeling as though he had no choice but to stay with him, as Theo promised to get help.

Theo’s abuse has also turned violent on multiple occasions. He has poured a bottle of milk over Todd’s head, smashed his face into a mirror and beaten him.

In a recent special episode, which focused entirely on Todd and Theo’s story and played out through the lenses of different cameras, Theo locked Todd in the bathroom overnight before goading him into lashing out.

Theo fell onto a coffee table after being shoved by Todd, and ended up in hospital, while Todd was arrested for assault. In a tragic turn of events, this led their neighbours to believe that Todd was the violent one in the relationship.

Todd had hidden secret cameras in the flat to prove Theo’s abuse, but even this was turned against him when Theo found them and doctored the footage to paint himself as the victim.

Has Theo done this before?

It was revealed this summer that Todd is not Theo’s first abuse victim.

Theo remained cool as he was confronted by ex-boy Owen during a night-out on Canal Street. Owen accused him of being abusive, but covered his actions by painting Owen as the one who was controlling in their relationship.

When Todd questioned him, Theo accused him of being just like Owen, twisting his innocent questions and making out that his partner was accusing him of something.

What does the future hold for Todd and Theo?

Unfortunately, it doesn’t look like Todd is set to escape Theo’s clutches any time soon with actor Gareth Pierce telling Metro: ‘He does push back and, sadly, the situation actually gets worse and Todd’s maybe doubly trapped now.’

In fact, Todd seems determined to spend the rest of his life with him as he gets down on one knee to propose in an upcoming episode.

Up Next

As a new spoiler video for the ITV soap reveals, Theo arrives at the Rovers’ New Year’s Eve party and is surprised by a kiss from Todd.

Telling Theo that he is keen for a fresh start in 2026, Todd pops the question in front of their neighbours.

However, not everyone is impressed by the display, with Billy and Summer sharing concerned looks.

By this stage, Billy is already worried about Theo and Todd’s relationship, having noticed that Todd isn’t quite himself.

Is Todd leaving Coronation Street?

At the moment there has been no confirmation that Todd is set to leave Coronation Street, but that doesn’t mean it is impossible.

Next week, the epic crossover between Corrie and Emmerdale is set to hit our screens, with bosses promising fatalities.

Corriedale characters Debbie Webster, Todd Grimshaw, Carla Connor, Cain and Charity Dingle and John Sugden on a dark road with an oncoming car.

With Todd on the cast list for Corriedale, which airs at 8pm on Monday, January 5, it is possible that he could end up as one of the unlucky ones.

Though he didn’t confirm the outcome for Todd, Gareth told us at the Corriedale premiere that he is unconscious for some of the episode.

‘I don’t know how much I can give away, but Todd is initially unconscious in the immediate aftermath,’ he teased.

‘There was one bit where we needed everyone to do cut aways of their reactions to the explosion and my big challenge was to not react to the explosion because I was unconscious, and then Tracy Barlow jumped on top of me, but that’s another story…’
