Keith Andrews has played down the severity of Igor Thiago’s injury after the striker missed Brentford’s 2-0 defeat to Manchester City in the Carabao Cup on Wednesday evening.

The Brazilian forward has been in excellent form for Brentford this season with 11 goals in the Premier League so far.

However, The Bees were forced to play their Carabao Cup quarter-final tie away to City without both Thiago and Jordan Henderson, who scored in the 1-1 draw with Leeds United on Sunday.

Andrews revealed after the 2-0 defeat to City that Thiago and Henderson were missing due to ‘knocks’, but suggested the duo are set to be in contention to return for Brentford’s Premier League game against Wolves at Molineux on Saturday.

‘They didn’t quite make this one but not not far off, so we’ll just see how they are tomorrow and then we’ll dust ourselves down and see how everyone else is, obviously after a tough 90 minutes plus,’ Andrews said.

‘We’ll focus on Wolves once we debrief this in the morning.’

Brentford will also be without Frank Onyeka and Dango Ouattara for their trip to Wolves this weekend as they have both joined up with the Nigeria and Burkina Faso squads respectively for the Africa Cup of Nations.
