Soap director Peter Rose, who was behind one of Coronation Street’s most famous scenes, has died.
Friend Harry Duffin took to Facebook to announce the sad news.
‘It is very sad to say that a great friend of ours, Peter Rose has died last weekend,’ he wrote.
‘I met him when we worked together on HOWARDS WAY in the 1980s. He was a director and I was script editor. He went on to direct for CORONATION STREET, EASTENDERS and EMMERDALE until last year. Even though we left London we stayed friends together and met whenever we could.
‘His partner, Mick Cawson and Peter spent holidays at our villa when we lived in Spain. He was a lovely man, and Chris and I will miss him very much.’
The news was met with further tributes in the comments, with Marcus DF White writing: ‘I am so upset to hear this news. Peter was such a lovely man. We had so much fun co casting Howards Way together.’
‘Such sad news. He was always fun and so witty,’ another friend added.
Writer Kathryn Davies also paid tribute to Peter on Instagram, writing: ‘RIP.. Peter Rose, Director, Howards End, Eastenders, Coronation Street, Emmerdale. So sudden, Happy we did lunch in December, nobody to tell me off now! Bless you.’
Peter Rose had a successful career in television, with his first directing credit being Howards’ Way in 1989.
He worked on numerous series over the following years, including Family Affairs, Crossroads, and Holby City.
Between 1996 and 2002, he directed 53 episodes of Brookside, before heading to London to direct EastEnders from 2003 until 2010.
In 2011, he directed his first episode of Coronation Street. He would go on to be credited for over 100 episodes, including one of the soap’s most famous scenes.

Viewers will recall the dinner party that saw Deirdre Barlow throw a trifle at the wall, claiming that ‘jelly shouldn’t run, it should wobble’.
The scene aired in October 2014, and saw Carla Connor (Alison King) and Tracy Barlow (Kate Ford) argue over Peter Barlow, who was in prison for the murder of Tina McIntyre, which became too much for Deirdre, who lost her cool and threw the dessert.
The iconic moment was nominated for Scene of the Year at the British Soap Awards 2015, and was just one of many moments Peter directed.
Peter also directed countless episodes of Emmerdale from 2010, with his final episode airing on January 1, 2025.
