Jimmy Johnson, the former Super Bowl-winning coach of the Dallas Cowboys, castigated the Pro Football Hall of Fame's voting body for their omission of former New England Patriots coach Bill Belichick from the Class of 2026.
Belichick not receiving at least 40 of the 50 votes needed for entry into the Hall has been met with severe blowback across the league. The eight-time Super Bowl champion, six times as a head coach with the Patriots, earned a requisite amount of accolades over the course of his illustrious career for first-ballot consideration.
As a guest on Wednesday's episode of "The Pat McAfee Show," Johnson poured scorn on the Selection Committee:
"When I talked to two or three of the voters today, of course, every voter's gonna say I voted for him, which is [expletive]. A bunch of them are lying," Johnson began before pivoting to his affinity for the now-head coach for UNC.
"But it's a crying shame because one thing, I know Bill personally, and, no one knows the history of the NFL more than Bill Belichick. No one loves the NFL more than Bill Belichick. And it just pissed me off that it wasn't a slam dunk, him going into the Hall of Fame."
Belichick's accolades also include three AP NFL Coach of the Year awards, as well as the third-most career regular season wins by a head coach in NFL history with 302. Heralded for his defensive acumen as well as his cultivation of talent, Belichick will be up for consideration for a second time in 2027.
