As Super Bowl LX preparations got underway in Foxborough, the practice squad returned to capacity.

The New England Patriots announced the additions of wide receiver Trent Sherfield Sr. and linebacker Patrick Johnson on Wednesday, bringing the group back to its 17-man limit.

Sherfield, 29, had signed to the practice squad leading up to the divisional round and was released on the eve of the AFC Championship Game. The 6-foot, 203-pound wideout now returns to the depth chart as sights set on Santa Clara and the Seattle Seahawks. A veteran of 124 games in the regular season, including 14 starts, the Vanderbilt product stands with 89 receptions for 1,034 yards and six touchdowns.

Since going undrafted in 2018, Sherfield has handled 2,684 snaps on offense and 1,804 snaps on special teams through stints with the Arizona Cardinals, San Francisco 49ers, Miami Dolphins, Buffalo Bills, Minnesota Vikings and Denver Broncos. His career also includes seven playoff appearances.

Johnson, 28, entered the NFL in the seventh round of the 2021 draft at No. 234 overall out of Tulane. The 6-foot-2, 248-pound linebacker was a member of the Philadelphia Eagles’ Super Bowl LVII team and returned for a second stint last March after being claimed off waivers by the New York Giants in 2024.

A veteran of the practice squad and 53-man roster, Johnson has appeared in 70 games in the regular season and stayed in for 615 snaps on defense and 1,902 snaps on special teams. Starting a pair up front while totaling 47 tackles, one sack, one forced fumble and one recovery, the NFC East alum has also taken the field for five playoff games.

Running back D’Ernest Johnson and defensive tackle Leonard Taylor III reverted to the practice squad on Monday after serving as standard elevations for what became a 10-7 win at Mile High. But with offensive tackle Lorenz Metz carrying an exemption through the NFL’s International Player Pathway, two spots remained open until Wednesday.
