APC receives defectors from ADC, PDP in Taraba, scales up e-registration across LGAs

Jalingo — The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Gassol Local Government Area of Taraba State has welcomed no fewer than 1,000 defectors from the African Democratic Congress (ADC) and the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

The defectors were led by Acho Righteous, former 2023 ADC candidate for Gassol I State Assembly, and Abubakar Surajo of the PDP.

Speaking at the event, Righteous said his decision to join the APC was influenced by what he described as the gains of reforms under President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration, as well as the recent movement of Taraba State Governor, Dr. Agbu Kefas, into the ruling party.

He also cited encouragement from Seyi Tinubu and the Minister of State for Defence, Bello Matawalle, noting that their support, particularly in youth engagement, hastened his defection.

“With over 1,000 supporters from Sabon-Gida Ward in Gassol Local Government Area, we have decided to leave the ADC for the APC,” Righteous said.

“With the ongoing electronic registration, all my supporters have already commenced the process to ensure we become full stakeholders in the party.”

Righteous further described the Federal Government’s Student Loan Scheme under the Nigerian Education Loan Fund (NELFUND) as a major boost for young people, saying it has improved access to education by easing the burden of tuition fees.

He added that the administration of Governor Agbu Kefas has begun delivering tangible benefits to the people of Taraba State, stressing that he and his supporters want to be part of what he termed the state’s emerging success story under the APC.

He urged politicians in other parties to consider joining the APC, describing the party as a growing political force in the state.

Earlier, the Gassol Local Government Chairman of the APC, Ibrahim Adamu, commended the defectors for joining the party and assured them of equal opportunities and full integration.

Adamu also encouraged residents across the state to take advantage of the ongoing APC e-registration exercise, noting that Gassol has historically been a strong support base for the party and is currently leading in the number of newly registered members.

As part of their activities, Righteous and his supporters paid courtesy visits to traditional rulers in the area, including the District Head of Kwararafa, Hakimi Samaila Sallah; a village head, Isaac Ibrahim; and the Ter Tiv Dan-Anacha, Daniel Mbaterem.
