Tennessee basketball will be without a key rotation player and possibly a key contributor in its next game.
Junior forward Jaylen Carey is listed as probable and freshman guard Troy Henderson has been ruled out as the Vols (13-6, 3-3 SEC) prepare for Georgia (16-4, 4-3) at Stegeman Coliseum on Jan. 28 (7 p.m. EST, SEC Network).
Carey hyperextended his left knee in the second half of Tennessee's 79-73 win at Alabama on Jan. 24. He exited the game with five rebounds, two points and an assist in 15 minutes.
"Obviously when you see any of your guys down on the floor and grimacing, especially him, someone who's built like a tank, he has the genes, genetics, he's never been really one to known to get hurt," assistant coach Amorrow Morgan said on Jan. 27. "This is his first time ever being out for an actual, physical injury. This is kind of new for him as well. We were kind of optimistic because of his build, but sometimes you just never know with those things.
"We are super fired up and happy that he is OK and that he's not going to have to miss a lot of time."
Meanwhile, Henderson will miss his second straight game with a left shoulder injury he sustained at practice.
Henderson was on track to crack to guard rotation after logging 22 minutes and making clutch plays in Tennessee's double overtime win over Texas A&M on Jan. 13. He played just six minutes in the loss against Kentucky and missed the Vols' most recent game at Alabama.
Amari Evans and Amaree Abram combined for 19 minutes in Henderson's place.
