Gopalkrishna Gandhi, speaking at The Hindu Lit Fest 2026, termed the handing of the death penalty to Nathuram Godse and Narayan Apte as “singlularly unfortunate”. In a conversation with publisher and author David Davidar, Gopalkrishna Gandhi speaks about his book The Undying Light: A Personal History of Independent India. He reflects on his initial fears about writing the book, saying he was concerned that his personal memories and family history might overshadow the larger historical narrative. Gandhi also recalls the day his grandfather, Mahatma Gandhi, was assassinated, describing how the tragic news was conveyed to his family.
