It’s already skipping PC at launch, but now it’s claimed GTA 6 might not be available physically until 2027.
Assuming there isn’t a third delay that pushes it into 2027, you should be playing GTA 6 in just 10 more months… as long as you have a PlayStation 5 or Xbox Series X/S.
GTA 6 will inevitably come to PC in the end, but despite fan wishes for a simultaneous launch, Rockstar Games and publisher Take-Two Interactive consider getting the game ready for consoles a higher priority.
Now, though, it’s being claimed that GTA 6 also won’t see a physical release at launch and will only be available digitally – as part of an effort to curb further leaks.
GTA 6 has already suffered from multiple leaks. Story details and the inclusion of a female protagonist made their way online in 2022, which was then followed by the infamous hacking incident that saw a lot of confidential screenshots and video footage spread across the internet.
The game’s reveal trailer also leaked ahead of schedule and apparently even more info has leaked since then, since Rockstar says this was its reasoning for firing a number of employees – claiming they had been revealing details about the game through Discord.

As such, Polish outlet PPE.pl is claiming Rockstar and Take-Two will only make GTA 6 available digitally at launch, although a physical version will come some time afterwards.
This is per an insider called Graczdari, who PPE.pl has deemed a trustworthy source of info, having previously and accurately leaked details about Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024’s PlayStation 5 port and the release date for Sonic Racing: CrossWorld’s Nintendo Switch 2 version.
It’s certainly believable, as there are plenty of instances of games having major story details leak because physical copies were shipped early, with players posting video footage or just discussing spoilers on social media.
Such incidents will not have gone unnoticed by other companies and with a digital only release, Rockstar and Take-Two can ensure nobody can play GTA 6 early, with spoilers not breaking containment until after the game’s official launch.

PPE.pl adds that it’s heard conflicting reports on how long the wait will be for the physical version of GTA 6. Apparently, it could be by only a few weeks or it could be months – meaning it may not release until 2027.
Again, that’s assuming GTA 6 doesn’t suffer another delay, which is entirely possible. GTA 5 launched in 2013 and has become the best-selling traditional video game ever, so expectations are high from both fans and Take-Two executives.
GTA 6 is such a big deal that it’s expected to further boost PlayStation 5 console sales, which in turn could incentivise Sony to delay launch plans for the PlayStation 6.
