A new teen drama series centred on ice skating has soared up the Netflix charts since being released a few days ago.
Adapted from the novel of the same name by Jennifer Iacopelli, which itself was loosely based on the Jane Austen classic Persuasion, all eight episodes of the Canadian series Finding Her Edge dropped on Netflix on January 22.
It stars Madelyn Keys as Adriana Russo, a figure skating star who returns to the sport two years after the death of her gold medallist mum two years earlier.
But when given the chance to carry on her family’s Olympic legacy and save their financially struggling ice rink, she jumps at the opportunity.
However, when searching for a partner to compete with, Adriana is forced to turn to the last person she wants to – the cocky bad boy of ice dancing, Brayden Elliot, played by Cale Ambrozic.

As those two try and find a way to work together, things get complicated when her former ice-dancing partner and ex-boyfriend Freddie O’Connell (Olly Atkins) turns up with the rest of the Canadian Olympic hopefuls to train at her family’s elite ice rink – including with his new partner.
The synopsis for what plays out next in the series teases: ‘At first, Freddie seems ready to forgive and forget — perhaps even rekindle something – until he sees her skate with Brayden. Because, despite the vitriol Adriana and Brayden spew at each other, their chemistry on the ice is undeniable.’
‘Can Adriana conquer the competitive world of ice dancing, or will boy drama dash her Olympic dreams?’
Netflix also teased that Adriana ‘begins to find out that balancing a love triangle, family drama, and her own future prospects might be impossible’.
The book was adapted by Jeff Norton (Geek Girl) and Shelley Scarrow (Degrassi: The Next Generation), with the latter telling Tudum: ‘On one level, our show is a soapy YA drama. But I set out to make it much more than that; [it’s] a layered family drama about a fractured family finding their path back together.’
He went on: ‘Adriana feels the weight of the world on her shoulders. In taking on the responsibility of saving her family’s rink, which is her mother’s legacy, she suddenly finds herself navigating all types of new challenges and pressures, both on and off the ice.’
Since being released on Netflix, the show is now currently the fifth most-watched series in the UK.
It also holds a 100% rating on Rotten Tomatoes.
‘Finding Her Edge is at its best when it leans into Adriana and Brayden’s connection, the Russo sisterhood, and the magic on the ice. There are surprising stand out performances…that have me eager to see what they tackle next,’ Pop Culture Planet wrote in its review.
‘Finding Her Edge may not be the kind of prestige television that racks up awards, but it delivers a binge-worthy viewing experience,’ Solzy at the Movies shared.
‘All things considered, if you’re looking for a YA drama that is easy-to-watch, aimless fun, Finding Her Edge does fit the bill,’ Collider added.
Meanwhile viewer Anna wrote: ‘Honestly, Finding Her Edge surprised me in the best way. It’s easy to watch but also really meaningful, and the characters feel genuine rather than overdone. The story pulls you in quickly, and by the end you actually want more.’
‘This show is a perfect way to open up 2026 with a dramatic bang! The plot is genuinely entertaining, and I love how the characters speak of the magic of ice skating!’ Meenah shared.
Finding Her Edge also features cameos from five-time Canadian figure skating champions Piper Gilles and Paul Poirier, while British figure skating champions Lilah Fear and Lewis Gibson voiced a duo of television commentators.
Meanwhile the book’s author also made a brief appearance as a librarian in the penultimate episode.
Finding Her Edge is streaming on Netflix.
