It’s January, so you know what that means? It’s time to guess which celebrities are singing songs while dressed in ridiculous costumes.

Yes, The Masked Singer UK is back for a new season of wonderful warbling and desperate detective work.

Since first hitting the small screen in 2020, we’ve had six seasons of the show, hosted by Joel Dommett, and the format is brilliantly simple.

Basically, judges Jonathan Ross, Davina McCall, Mo Gilligan and Maya Jama watch a costumed performer belt out a song and then they have to guess who’s under the mask.

If they get stuck, they’ll be given clues to help them figure things out.

For this season, the ten concealed contestants are Moth, Can of Worms, Red Panda, Conkers, Arctic Fox, Toastie, Monkey Business, Yak, Sloth, Gargoyle, Disc Jockey and Teabag.

So with the competition well underway, here’s everything we know about Moth so far…

What clues are there for Moth’s identity?

  • ‘It’s time for me to face the music’
  • ‘I’ve grown bigger than my wildest dreams,’ the Moth said, offering imagery of flourishing from larvae to butterfly, indicating a growth of fame over their life.
  • They then cited three things a successful Moth-dition needs: ‘Grace, power and presence’.
  • ‘I’ve served in the West’ – potentially meaning the West End.
  • During the clue package, we were given glimpses of a carrot, a candlestick and a framed picture of comedian Ronnie Corbett.
  • At the end, Moth is holding a blue jay.
  • Everything Moth said was delivered with a posh accent.

Who could Moth be on The Masked Singer?

Many a name has been mentioned for Moth on The Masked Singer.

Here are a few celebrities that the judges think could be hiding behind the mask.

Jessie J

Running with the theory that it is a singer, and weaving in the glimpse of a blue jay in the clue package, Jonathan Ross said it could be Jessie J.

The Price Tag hitmaker certainly has the vocals to perform such a gorgeous rendition of Mariah Carey’s emotional ballad.

Notably, Jessie J has also been on the West End, where she started her career young at the age of nine on Andrew Lloyd Webber’s Whistle Down the Wind.

Molly Ringwald

Davina came in with another strong suggestion, noting that US actor Molly Ringwald not only starred in the 1993 movie, Face the Music, but also has red hair – hence the carrot reference.

There was also a lit candle as part of the clues, and Molly famously starred in Sixteen Candles as a young actress (another element to her career trajectory, which fits into the moth transforming into a butterfly).

Keisha Buchanan

Sugababes star Keisha Buchanan has been mentioned by not only social media sleuths but also Maya.

Viewers are convinced that that set of pipes can only belong to one person – the 41-year-old girl group icon.

Maya has the same idea – she said the sound of Moth’s voice is transporting her back to her childhood, describing it as ‘vocal perfection’.

Other potential stars that could be hiding under the disguise are Paloma Faith and Alexandra Burke – both with powerhouse voices and a connection to the West End.

Guest judge Ben Shephard thinks it’s actor Billie Piper.

He picked up on the broken record motif and thinks it’s a performer who has broken records. That’s why he’s gone for the youngest ever female number one, Billie.

In 1998, aged 15, she became the youngest female artist to go to the top of the charts with Because We Want To.

The Scottish cloth Ben reckons could be an indicator of her name?

Mo thinks it is singing legend Beverley Knight.

He’s convinced the reference to jazz means they went to stage school, and after hearing the clue about a ‘queen bee’, he said it was staring him in the face.
