SDP repositions to provide credible alternative in Adamawa by 2027 – Ex-lawmaker

Mr Wafarinyi Theman, a former Chairman of the Public Accounts Committee, Adamawa State House of Assembly, says the Social Democratic Party (SDP) is repositioning to offer the state a dependable alternative by 2027.

Theman, a former Secretary of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Adamawa and ex-lawmaker for Hong Constituency from 2011 to 2015, disclosed this at a media engagement on Tuesday in Yola.

He said the SDP would soon become visible and competitive across the state, driven by sound political ideology and commitment to human development.

According to him, the party’s ideology provides a strong foundation that can be harnessed to deliver better governance in Adamawa and Nigeria at large.

“With the right ideology and commitment to human development, the SDP is ready to offer Adamawa a dependable alternative by 2027,” he said.

The former lawmaker announced his defection from the APC to the SDP, describing the move as a major political realignment ahead of the 2027 general elections.

He said he resigned from the APC on June 12, 2023, explaining that the date was chosen for its historic significance in Nigeria’s democratic history.

Theman described the SDP as a party founded on strong ideology, noting that Atiku Abubakar, Babagana Kingibe, the late Obafemi Awolowo and President Bola Tinubu were among its founding figures.

He also hinted at a possible governorship ambition on the SDP platform, saying his decision on whether to contest would be made public in due course.

Theman added that the SDP would commence congresses from ward to national levels from February 2026, urging Adamawa residents to join the party for people-oriented leadership.
