The Ogun State Police Command has confirmed that detailed investigations are underway into the sudden death of 22-year-old Afro-Fuji singer, Adesina Afeez, popularly known as Destiny Boy, with the case transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), Homicide Section. One suspect has been taken into custody as detectives intensify efforts to unravel the circumstances surrounding the young musician’s tragic passing.
A statement obtained by Vanguard from the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Babaseyi Oluseyi, disclosed that the command has formally commenced inquiries and moved the case to the SCID for a thorough forensic and homicide investigation.
“One suspect is currently in custody while investigations are ongoing,” the statement said.
The news of Destiny Boy’s death, which reportedly occurred on Sunday in Ijebu-Ode, Ogun State, sent shockwaves through the entertainment industry and social media. Disturbing videos showing his lifeless body being transported later surfaced online, further heightening public concern and outrage.
Although no official cause of death has been confirmed by his family, unverified reports and eyewitness accounts circulating on social media alleged that the singer exhibited severe symptoms shortly before his demise, including vomiting blood.
Reacting to the development, popular Nigerian singer Ruger took to social media to express concern over what he described as a lack of transparency surrounding the incident. He questioned the absence of an autopsy report and official clarification on the circumstances leading to the singer’s death.
“No autopsy, nothing! Are we just supposed to accept it like that? Someone has to be held accountable,” Ruger wrote, echoing the sentiments of many Nigerians.
Meanwhile, Vanguard observed that on several occasions prior to his death, Destiny Boy had shared posts on his Instagram page with a recurring phrase: “Either I make this money or I die young. Money must be made.” The posts have since sparked emotional reactions and renewed debate among fans.
Born Afeez Adesina, Destiny Boy rose to national prominence after a viral Fuji rendition of Davido’s hit song If. He later released several tracks that earned him a loyal following across Nigeria’s music scene. The late singer had also welcomed his first child with his partner in November 2024, making his untimely death even more painful for fans and loved ones.
