Former governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress, APC, in Abia State, Dr Nyerere Chinenye Anyim, has said that voting massively for President Bola Tinubu in 2027 will return the South East zone to the mainstream of national politics, which will guarantee more infrastructural projects and political appointments to the zone.
Anyim, who stated this in an interview with Vanguard, explained that the 2027 presidential poll presents an opportunity for the people of the South East to negotiate what he described as a guaranteed good political future by voting for Tinubu or wasting their votes on other candidates who would set the zone backwards.
He reminded the South East that Tinubu has done much for the zone through infrastructure projects and appointments, and that Tinubu should be returned in 2027 to do more for the zone.
He said, “President Bola Tinubu will be re-elected in 2027. It is up to the people of the South East to join the train, to vote for him, to negotiate a good political future, and to return to the mainstream of national politics, or to waste their votes on candidates who would isolate the zone and drag it backwards.
Our political future depends on us. The Igbo have a saying that you lie on your bed the way you dress it. Some of these national positions are not just given; you work for them. Once it comes to the national cake, when it comes to politics, you have to work for it. The Igbo must work for it.
“The APC has grown in population from what it was in 2019 and 2023. It is now the party of first choice in the South East. I also want to assure that the South East people who have seen what the Tinubu administration has done will definitely re-elect him in 2027. They have seen what he has done in the zone, and they will want him to do more
“If we must tell ourselves the truth, what we were experiencing in the past years was too bad; but today, there is light at the end of the tunnel. Things are improving; we have seen things we did not see before he came to power. There had been a government in the past. Why do we have the South East Development Commission today? Why is it that the Enugu-Port Harcourt road is seeing the light of day, not forgetting the Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway? There are too many infrastructural projects situated in the South East, unlike before. This is happening less than four years into this administration. By the time he marks eight years like others do, the South East will see more than what they are witnessing today.
“When you look back from 2015 till date, look back from what happened in 2014, you will find out that the position where we find ourselves in 2014, 2013, 2012, 2011,etc, that gave rise to APC in 2015, will not be compared with where we are today. It might not be Uhuru, but we have achieved some milestones.
“Nigerians are going through challenges which were not created by APC; Nigeria’s challenges were not created by APC, they were things that we met on the ground, and we are solving them.
There are too many areas that have seen some positivity; everything is negative. There are areas that the APC government has addressed very well.
Anyim, who was the first national vice chairman of the APC in the South East, also stated that Tinubu deserves to be applauded for releasing funds to state governments, which have helped improve governance in the states.
“Tinubu deserves commendation. The APC-led federal government has empowered many governors to do more in their states. All the states in this federation have experienced what you might call a windfall, comparable to the days of the oil boom. Thanks to President Tinubu. There is a financial boom for all of them now, so they have no reason not to do well. Only a wicked governor will have the privilege of having huge funds released by the APC and refuse to do well. So, Tinubu has brought more money for the state Governors to improve governance. The South East zone is better for this.
“As of today, governors no longer have any excuse not to do well with the amount of resources made available to them by the Tinubu-led administration.”
