Piers Morgan has shared that he is in hospital recovering after a fall that required surgery.
The 60-year-old broadcaster broke the news in typical Piers fashion, posting a selfie from his bed, surrounded by wires and tubes as he gave a thumbs up.
On Instagram, his caption confirmed that he ‘tripped on a small step’ inside a London hotel restaurant.
Quipping that he ‘fell like a sack of spuds’, the former Good Morning Britain host revealed he needed a ‘new hip’ and has also fractured ‘the neck of [his] femur’.
Adding a photo of his X-ray, Piers illustrated the nasty break in his thigh bone.
He will now be on crutches for six weeks and will be unable to take any long-haul flights for three months.
‘New Year off to a cracking start!’, he joked.
The Life Stories presenter ended on a light-hearted note, declaring: ‘I blame Donald Trump.’
Piers was quickly flooded with well-wishes, including from famous friends.
GB News host Eamonn Holmes, whose own health woes and mobility issues are well documented, commented: ‘Well , sincere sympathy my friend but I am the expert in this field …. if u want advice or a visitor !
Lucozade and Grapes 🍇?’
‘You daft bugger – hope you are OK! ❤️❤️❤️’, wrote Lorraine Kelly, with Piers writing back: ‘the shame of it all is worse than the pain! 😂’
‘Hope you’re ok pal..rest up and shout if you need anything 🙏’, commented Jeremy Kyle, to which Piers replied: ‘thanks mate 👍’
The likes of Katherine Jenkins, Charlotte Hawkins, and Katie Piper also commented, while former Newsnight host Emily Maitlis added: ‘Nooooo. This is ABSURD ❤️❤️’
Piers agreed that ‘absurd’ is the ‘perfect word for what happened’.
Fans of the host joined in on wishing him well in his recovery, joking that it feels ‘appropriate’ to blame Trump.
Piers famously supported Republican leader Trump during his first presidential campaign; however, he has said he would never vote for him personally, as their politics are ‘too different’.
‘I like him. He’s been very loyal to me in many different ways, which I have greatly appreciated, and I judge him for how he behaves as a campaigner and now as a president,’ Piers said in 2017.
Trump has been interviewed by Piers on numerous occasions, including on his show Uncensored.
In fact, this isn’t the first time Piers has held the former Apprentice star responsible for his health struggles.
Piers shared a similar social media post in 2019 when he was hospitalised for gastritis (when the lining of the stomach becomes inflamed) and duodenitis (an intestinal condition caused by swelling in the first part of the small intestine).
Taking to X, he said at the time: ‘If you really want to know, I was diagnosed with stomach gastritis and duodenitis.
‘I blame eating a mouthful of vegan sausage roll, Brexit & Donald Trump.
‘Monday, 6.40am: I eat one mouthful of vegan sausage roll.
‘Friday, 11am: hospitalised for gastroscopy on inflamed, exploding innards.
‘I’m doing the maths’.
In October last year, the TV personality indicated that he would be interested in becoming prime minister himself.
Speaking to Saga Magazine, he said: ‘There has been talk about “PM for PM,” Piers Morgan for prime minister. Why not?
‘Right now, there are a lot of people in this country who feel betrayed by successive governments, whether it’s over the NHS, stopping the boats, or the state of the roads.
‘What would be in my manifesto?
‘A 1% tax on income that would go straight to the NHS, and taking a leaf out of Trump’s book, I would call (French) president (Emmanuel) Macron and tell him that unless he did something about the boats, we would tax French imports by 1,000%.
‘It’s time to get tough.’
Piers began his career in journalism at The Sun in the late 1980s and went on to become editor of the News of the World and The Mirror before moving into broadcasting, hosting shows such as Piers Morgan’s Life Stories and GMB.
He has also served as a judge on Britain’s Got Talent.
His Uncensored YouTube channel is also shown on 5 in the form of a 90-minute highlights package, following a partnership announced in September last year.
