Manchester City have reached an agreement to sign Marc Guehi from Crystal Palace in a £20 million deal.

The England international has less than six months remaining on his current deal, meaning Palace risk losing their captain on a free transfer this summer.

Liverpool and Arsenal have also expressed interest in Guehi, while Barcelona met with the defender’s agents last month.

However, City have now agreed a deal in principle with Palace for Guehi.

Palace manager Oliver Glasner said on Friday: ‘My latest understanding is that a deal with Marc is in the final stages.

‘I can’t confirm a club, because it’s still not done but it’s in the final stages. The result is that Marc doesn’t play tomorrow for us.

‘When the players want to move on a deal will happen. It looks like it has happened now.

‘Everyone wanted Marc to stay forever. I talked to him, of course, it stays between us. Marc shown it in the summer transfer window, shown it the whole autumn that he was 100 per cent committed to the team and to Crystal Palace.

‘I wish him all the best for the rest of his career. He is still at the beginning of his great career. He is a fantastic guy.’

Glasner also revealed during his press conference that he will leave Palace at the end of the season.

Palace had initially been holding out for a £40m fee for their captain.

Chelsea are also due to receive a 20 per cent sell-on fee as part of their initial agreement for Guehi’s £18m move to Palace in 2021.

Liverpool came close to signing Guehi last summer but his £35m move to Anfield was stopped.

The 25-year-old was undergoing a medical with Liverpool on deadline day when Palace pulled the plug on the deal.

Arsenal have registered their interest but the Premier League leaders, along with Liverpool, had been aiming to sign Guehi as a free agent at the end of the season.
