It’s finally over. Becky Swain (Amy Cudden), the death-faking, sometimes-coppering-sometimes-gangstering, kidnapping, fire-starting and all around wrong’un is safely locked behind bars, unable to terrorise the residents of Coronation Street, and, more specifically, Swarla, any longer!

Taking to Instagram, Amy penned a heartfelt tribute to her loved ones and those who’ve been involved in her Corrie tenure.

‘That’s a wrap on Becky Swain… I’m so grateful to have had this opportunity. @gusgallagher1980 you are the most generous and loving partner to have taken on everything so I could up sticks and bugger off for six months to have the best time on the best job. I love you’ she began.

‘Thank you @thekatebrooks for signing off on me, and for the endless support. Thank you @prinny1968 for all the delicious food and episode debriefs in the canteen, thank you @eamonnbedford for putting me in the room and always having my back, thank you @swarlaappreciation for reaching out to the mullet haired wrong’un who was stomping on Swarla to make sure she was ok’

‘To mv lovely on-screen family who I miss SO MUCH! @vicksmyers @sydneymartin and the magical fire tornado that is Ali King. Three incredible screen queens that I adore, and I’m so grateful to have fallen from the soapy sky into their warm embrace. Swarla forever’

It’s been a long and often confusing journey. Lisa Swain’s (Vicky Myers) deceased ex-wife caused trouble from beyond her pretend grave when Lisa discovered evidence that she was potentially corrupt, all the while falling in love and setting up home with Carla Connor (Alison King).

After pulling a ‘Thriller’ and returning from the dead, it turned out that our Becks was indeed as corrupt as they came. She’d ‘died’ to avoid a gang, a gang she was actively taking money from.

Swinging into Weatherfield like a wrecking ball, she instantly set about trying to break Lisa and Carla up, using daughter Betsy (Sydney Martin) as a both a pawn in her battle with equally-bent DI Costello (Daon Broni) and as a tool to win Lisa back…

…and it very nearly worked!

After a combination of terrorising herself, firebombing the family home, kidnapping Carla and keeping her locked up in an airing cupboard, while ultimately planning to flee the country with Lisa and Betsy, it was the suspicion of Kit Green (Jacob Roberts) that scuppered her, and just as it seemed that Becky would get everything she wanted, it all came crashing down.

The catalyst for the deadly Corriedale pile up, the nation punched the air as Lisa slapped handcuffs on her ex-then current-now ex agains wrists.

Though Becky attempted a few last power grabs, threatening to drag Lisa into the frame alongside her, a furious visit from Betsy appeared to put the final nail in the coffin of crazy, as Becky accepted her fate and her sentence without trying to land a final blow on her ex-wife.

While fans have (as they should) hated Becky, they’ve (as they also should) loved Amy throughout her reign of terror, with some reaching out to her.

‘I mean, I have to say, I had heard of Swarla, but I had no idea how passionate and loyal that fanbase was,’ she admitted.

‘But I have to say, those fans are extraordinary, because some of the most hardcore fans have reached out to me personally and sent me letters and care packages, and it takes a lot of generosity.

‘If you’re so invested in a couple, to reach out to the person who is destroying that couple, even though it’s acting to say ;I really hope you’re okay’, ‘we hate Becky, but we really like you, and we hope you’re looking after yourself’. I think they’re worried about my mental health playing someone who quite clearly needs quite a lot of therapy and probably some medication at the same time,’ she added.
